Text lifted from the fab website of New Amsterdam Records:
On Saturday, August 16th, the East River Music Project will present a full afternoon of genre-less musical excellence curated by New Amsterdam Records and Counterstream Radio, a wonderful new online radio station exclusively dedicated to the music of American composers.
The East River Music Project prides itself on
cutting-edge programming - past acts have included Grizzly Bear, TV on
the Radio, Cat Power, and Dragons of Zynth. This outdoor event will
feature solo sets by NewAm's own Alex Sopp and Mark Dancigers, along
with the introduction of mind-bending new projects by Matt Marks and
Jacob Cooper - two young, exciting composers from the New Amsterdam
community. The former will be presenting excerpts from his "Christian
Nihilist Pop Musical" The Little Death and the latter excerpts from a brand-new semi-staged opera entitled Timberbrit.
Both of these projects challenge the very notion of theatrical music
and create truly unique soundworlds, expertly blending pop music, art
music, and sample-based electronica.
Headlining the event, fresh off their remarkable Wordless Music performance, will be itsnotyouitsme, whose NewAm debut walled gardens
continues to make waves in the blossoming world of indie classical
music. inyim's sweeping guitar and string textures should be
captivating against the backdrop of tugboats and water taxis.
Again, the date is Saturday, August 16th. Doors are at 2pm and tickets
are cheap - in fact, they're free. The show will probably run 'til
around 6pm. For info about the East River Music Project and/or
